POSITION PURPOSE:
The SHE & Security Manager is responsible for leadership, governance, implementation and continuous improvement of all Health, Safety, Occupational Hygiene, and Site Security systems in a high-risk steel foundry operation. The role ensures full legal compliance, risk reduction, incident prevention, and the cultivation of a strong safety culture in a complex industrial environment. This is a critical leadership role in a complex, high-risk manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in protecting employees, ensuring legal compliance, enabling safe production and contributing to the long-term sustainability of the business.
Legal Compliance (Section 16(2)
Fulfil the duties of the Section 16(2) appointee, ensuring the effective implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) at Atlantis Foundries.
Drive full compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Maintain and continuously improve the implemented Health and Safety Policy, ensuring alignment and integration with Daimler Truck occupational Safety Standards.
Safety, Health & Occupational Hygiene
Lead and manage the Health & Safety function at Atlantis Foundries, ensuring alignment with business strategic objectives and operational excellence.
Develop, implement, and continuously enhance integrated management systems in line with ISO 45001:2018 and similar related QMS systems.
Monitor, analyse, and report on key health and safety performance indicators, providing actionable insights to leadership.
Lead internal and external audit processes, ensuring full compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate standards
Facilitate structured root cause analysis and drive the effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions across the plant
Partner closely with Operations, Engineering and Senior leadership to enhance processes, reduce risk and support safe, reliable production and promote and embed a strong culture of health, safety and continuous improvement of all levels in the organization.
Lead and manage the outsourced on-site clinic with related responsibilities.
Site Security
Ensure robust emergency preparedness and response capability. • Manage all aspects of site security including access control and guarding
services
Resource Management
Lead a high-performing Health and Safety Team, identifying gaps and implementing effective targeted risk reduction measures.
Provide disciplined budget oversight for the Health & Safety function and ensure cost-effective implementation of initiatives while maintaining compliance and supporting operational performance.
Qualified in Safety/Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering.
Minimum NQF Level 6 in any of the above qualifications.
10 Years related experience in a steel, foundry, mining, automotive or heavy manufacturing environment. As part of this must have at least 3 years practical experience in the implementation and risk management in line with OHSAct.
5 Years experience in a Supervisory role.
Demonstrated experience of the OHSAct and related regulatory requirements.
