We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engine Component Design Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design and development of heavy-duty engine components. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, excellent proficiency with Siemens NX and a deep understanding of internal combustion engine principles, materials, and manufacturing processes for high-stress applications.
Design & Development:
Lead the detailed design, modeling, and drafting of heavy-duty engine components (e.g., cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons) using Siemens NX.
Create and manage complex 3D models and detailed 2D drawings per industry standards including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Apply design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles to ensure robust, cost-effective, and production-ready designs.
Collaborate with the Vehicle Systems Cross-Functional Team (CFT) to meet Vehicle DMU (Design Mock-up) requirements, including application and packaging constraints, with a focus on achieving Powertrain-specific targets.
Strong understanding of engineering materials and associated manufacturing processes (e.g., casting, forging, machining).
Analysis & Simulation:
Perform preliminary engineering calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) for structural integrity, fatigue life, thermal management, and vibration, using tools integrated within NX or other dedicated FEA software
Collaborate with the simulation team to validate design assumptions and optimize component performance under heavy-duty operating conditions.
Documentation & Collaboration:
Manage and control design data within a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system (e.g., Teamcenter).
Prepare and present design reviews, technical specifications, and validation reports to cross-functional teams (e.g., Manufacturing, Quality, Testing, Supply Chain).
Work closely with testing and validation engineers to interpret test results and implement necessary design iterations.
Problem Solving:
Diagnose and resolve complex design-related issues and failures in existing or new products.
Stay current with new engine technologies, materials science, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
Competencies
Analytical and Detail-Oriented: Exceptional ability to analyse complex engineering problems and provide precise solutions.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
Self-Starter: Proactive, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
- Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience in mechanical design, specifically focused on heavy-duty engine components or powertrain systems.
- Demonstrated expert proficiency with Siemens NX for parametric modeling, surfacing, drafting, and large assembly management.
