Job Overview 

The Customs and Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring full legal, fiscal, and customs compliance across the organisation’s supply chain and financial operations. The role manages all customs-related activities, NRCS regulatory compliance, VAT administration, corporate tax support, and transfer pricing documentation in compliance to the Company's Integrity, Anti Bribery Codes, Conflict of Interest Policy, Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality requirements and to perform delegated SHERQ tasks and duties & to inform superior about deviations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Customs Compliance:

  • Manage and oversee SARS Customs processes, including import/export declarations, tariff classification, valuation, and origin determination. 
  • Maintain Customs Deferment Accounts including reconciliations and payments. 
  • Monitor legislative changes and implement duty-saving opportunities. 
  • Conduct internal customs audits.

NRCS Compliance: 

  • Manage NRCS Letters of Authority applications and renewals. 
  • Ensure timely submission of NRCS Levies.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for imported regulated products. 
  • Track inspection outcomes and corrective actions.

VAT & Indirect Tax: 

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Review VAT treatments and manage refunds and disputes. 
  • Monitor VAT legislative changes.

Corporate Tax & Transfer Pricing:

  • Support annual corporate tax computations. 
  • Maintain transfer pricing documentation. 
  • Assist with tax audits and global tax alignment.

Financial Controls & Reporting: 

  • Perform reconciliations of customs duty, VAT accounts, and suspense accounts. 
  • Ensure adherence to IFRS and internal control frameworks. 
  • Maintain SOPs and implement process improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Partner with internal departments for compliance. 
  • Engage with SARS, NRCS, auditors, and customs brokers.
