Junior Legal Counsel and Compliance Officer

We have an opportunity for a Junior Legal Counsel and Compliance Officer waiting just for you. Reporting into the Head of Legal and Compliance, you will contribute to and cooperate with the global Legal and Compliance Team of Daimler Truck Group and proactively participate in Truck Legal exchanges and global working groups. Whist acting as a role model for legal and compliance matters and provide state of the art advise and direction.

 

More about the role

Provision of support to the Head of Legal and to provide wide-ranging legal advice to stakeholders across Daimler Truck, Daimler Buses UK Ltd and Daimler Truck Financial Services UK Limited. This includes:

Data Compliance:

Supporting and coordinating the entity-specific implementation of Data Protection requirements, including:

  • Delivering employee awareness of data protection topics

  • Delivering training and preparing local working policies and guidelines

  • Supporting departments in the initial set-up and update of record of processing activities

  • Supporting Data Protection Impact Assessments, complaints and subject access requests

  • Local coordination of Incident Management 

  • Consulting and supporting the departments on information obligations, deletion concepts, privacy by design/default and other DP topics (such as Data Analytics use cases)

  • Monitoring of data protection measures and new data protection laws and regulations and identification of local implementation needs

Compliance:

  • Undertaking Compliance risk assessments, performance monitoring and reporting more specifically to support Daimler Truck Financial Services as a primary focus,

  • Supporting and maintaining an effective Compliance program at local level in accordance with corporate Compliance Program requirements and local laws and regulations,

  • Supporting to maintain Compliance and Integrity awareness at local level,

  • Implementation and maintenance of clear standards of business and ethical conduct consistent with Daimler Truck corporate standards,

  • Implementation of risk-based control procedures based on Daimler Truck Compliance standard

  • Ongoing, effective communications and training in compliance requirements for both internal stakeholders as well as external business partners

  • Key areas such as Anti-Corruption, Sanctions compliance, Anti Money Laundering, AI compliance, Export controls, Human Rights Compliance, Data Compliance and Integrity and the Prevention of Fraud

  • Strong working knowledge on Anti Money Laundering due diligence and sanctions assessments – able to support the DTFS Anti Money Laundering officer

  • Regulatory Compliance - Ensure adequate implementation of regulatory compliance requirements, which arise out of local (financial/banking) supervision authorities

  • This includes coordination and supporting the implementation of required regulations as well as reporting & monitoring activities to local Board of Management and Legal & Compliance organisation (TL), if permissible

Legal:

  • Providing legal support to the Head of Legal & Compliance and wider stakeholders for all commercial legal matters involving the company 

  • Drafting standard and non-standard legal documents (e.g. contracts, letters)

  • Supporting administrative tasks of board and corporate law matters

  • Supporting litigation matters and debt recovery advice

  • Supporting on ongoing product liability, IP and competition law matters 

  • Observing trends in local legislation and implementation of required actions in the company

  • Working knowledge of contracts which support financial services lending, such as working capital agreements and loan agreements.

  • Undertaking legal research

About you

We are seeking a motivated legal professional with a Law Degree or Graduate Diploma in Law and completion of the LPC or SQE. The ideal candidate will be a UK‑qualified solicitor with 0–2 years’ PQE, though we also welcome applications from ILEX‑qualified or experienced paralegal candidates with relevant experience. In‑house experience within the financial services sector is desirable, alongside strong commercial contracts expertise, including advising on, reviewing, and negotiating terms and conditions. 

You will bring experience in Data Protection, AML, KYC, and sanctions compliance, and be comfortable supporting a range of local compliance matters on an ad hoc basis. Exposure to compliance, legal affairs, corporate audit, change management, applied business ethics, culture change, and communication—ideally gained in the automotive sector—is highly advantageous. The role requires fluency in spoken and written English, excellent communication and facilitation skills, strong analytical and solution‑oriented thinking, and the ability to manage projects effectively. 

Intercultural awareness and a sound understanding of relevant international and local laws—particularly in areas such as Anti‑corruption, Antitrust, Anti‑Money Laundering, Data Protection, Distribution Law, Export Control, Human Rights, Product Law, and international sanctions—are also essential.
