The ServiceNow Solution Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the enterprise-wide architecture of the ServiceNow platform.
This role ensures the platform remains scalable, secure, compliant, and aligned with business strategy.
The architect serves as a bridge between business capabilities and technical implementation, providing design authority across all ServiceNow modules and integrations.
Architecture & Design Leadership
- Define and maintain the end-to-end architecture blueprint for the ServiceNow platform.
- Drive modular, reusable design patterns that align with the CSDM, ITIL, and enterprise data models.
- Ensure platform scalability, performance, and multi-instance best practices.
- Provide architectural oversight for all custom apps, workflows, and integrations.
- Own ServiceNow upgrade and lifecycle planning from a technical architecture perspective.
Platform Governance & Quality Ownership
- Lead the architecture review board (ARB) and approve solution designs.
- Define governance standards: naming conventions, ACL structures, development guidelines, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Review instance scan results, quality gates, and technical debt dashboards.
- Approve plugin evaluations, installation requests, and HI portal governance activities.
- Ensure every release complies with governance policies, test coverage, and quality metrics.
Integration Strategy
- Design and govern integration architecture (REST, SOAP, MID, JDBC, APIs, Event-driven).
- Establish standards for API lifecycle, credentials, and security tokens.
- Collaborate with enterprise integration teams (e.g., Azure, SAP, Kafka) to ensure reliable and secure data exchange.
- Ensure integrations adhere to data privacy, GDPR, and audit standards.
Data, CMDB & CSDM Alignment
- Ensure CMDB data models and CSDM practices align with enterprise asset and service maps.
- Provide architectural input for discovery, service mapping, and dependency views.
- Define relationships between business applications, services, and technical components.
- Collaborate with CMDB Service Owner to enforce data quality KPIs and lifecycle management.
Security & Compliance
- Enforce instance security, role segregation, and access governance.
- Partner with InfoSec teams for vulnerability scans, encryption, and identity federation.
- Oversee upgrade readiness from a compliance standpoint (e.g., data protection, access control).
- Lead periodic platform audits and review SOX / GDPR / internal compliance items.
Roadmap, Innovation & Leadership
- Translate business goals into ServiceNow enablement opportunities.
- Lead innovation and POC initiatives across AI, predictive intelligence, and virtual agent use cases.
- Define the multi-year platform roadmap, covering modernization, DPM, ESG, and AI integration.
- Mentor developers, admins, and BAs on platform best practices.
- Partner with ServiceNow account teams, vendors, and internal COE for strategic planning.
Required Skills & Expertise
- Strong experience with multiple ServiceNow modules: ITSM, ITOM, ITBM/SPM, HRSD, CSM, GRC, and IntegrationHub.
- Deep understanding of CSDM, CMDB, Flow Designer, ATF, and Scoped Apps.
- Experience designing multi-instance architectures, domain separation, and delegated administration models.
- Strong exposure to DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, MID servers, and Performance Analytics.
- Hands-on experience with custom app frameworks, script includes, and REST API integrations.
- Ability to manage end-to-end instance lifecycle, clone strategy, and upgrade planning.
Experience: 9 –15 Years (minimum 6+ years hands-on with ServiceNow)
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Advanced certifications or specialization in Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF, ITIL Expert) is an advantage.
Certifications
Mandatory:
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
- ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (at least one core module – ITSM, ITOM, CSM, or SPM)
Preferred:
- ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)
- ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) or Implementation Architect (any domain)
- ITIL v4 Managing Professional / TOGAF 9+
Communication & Leadership Skills
- Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong documentation and presentation capabilities for executive communication.
- Proven experience driving design workshops, governance councils, and platform roadmap discussions.
