Sandown Motor Holdings (SMH) a subsidiary of Daimler Truck Southern Africa Ltd is excited to announce a challenging opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Diesel Mechanic Apprentice to join our team at the Centurion Sandown Workshop. SMH is looking for a candidate who has a passion for Commercial vehicles and is aspiring to become a qualified Diesel Technician.
Job Overview
To provide an opportunity to grow in diesel mechanic trade field, candidate will be working under supervision of a qualified Technician.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance support:
- Ensure work carried out are authorized by relevant stakeholders.
- Meet DTSA prescribed flat rate times for repairs and services conducted as minimum standard by applying technical skills productive and efficiently.
- Carry out repairs as per job card.
- Seek supervisory support and advice if and when necessary, during repairs.
Customer service:
- Ensure utmost care is taken of customer vehicle and property.
- Ensure customer care standards are met at all times.
- Informing Forman and Service Advisor of any potential issues and delays.
- Ensure seat covers are used at all times.
- Apply quality workmanship and at all times.
- Ensure all work is carried out according to DTSA quality standards.
- Secure used parts that have been replaced and ensure availability to the customer for inspection.
Administration and cost control:
- Complete job cards accurately.
- Conduct fault finding and report to relevant stakeholders.
- Adhere to DTSA warranty, maintenance, and dealer standards.
- Ensure hours worked on a vehicle are accurately recorded. In case of the time not being clocked, it must be noted in writing on the job card and signed off by the foreman.
- Record all material usage accurately.
- Attach ‘picking slip/s’ to the job card.
- Adhere to warranty and fleet maintenance parts control systems (hand-in warranty/maintenance contract parts for safe storage.
- Ensure utmost care is taken during service and/or repair of vehicles to avoid any damage to vehicles and components.
- Minimize wastage of all materials, oils, and fluids.
- Submit job card with relevant documents attached immediately after completion of job.
Housekeeping, Statutory and SHE adherence:
- Ensure the correct tools and equipment are used as per DTSA repair instructions, used correctly and the necessary care is taken to avoid abuse thereof.
- Maintain and secure hand tools provided as prescribed DTSA guidelines for learners/apprentices.
- Always maintain good housekeeping principles at all times.
- Ensure work bay is neat and organized at all times.
- Comply with and adhere to all applicable SHE and other statutory requirements at all times.
- Familiarize and comply with all applicable company policies and procedures.
Self-development:
- Take personal responsibility for learning and development through a process of assessment, reflection, and actioning. This can include both on and/or off the job training.
- Adhere to learnership/apprenticeship agreements with MERSETA.
- Ensure all training assessment portfolios are submitted in time.
- Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science & English / Technical Matric / N2 in Mechanical Engineering/ N2 Diesel - Motor Mechanic
